A few union updates:
STRS Workshop. Your union will be hosting a retirement workshop at the union office for all faculty (PT and FT) on Friday, November 13 at 12:30 pm. We have a phenomenal speaker presenting this workshop; I hope you will be able to attend. Check out the announcement and RSVP.
October Survey. Please complete the survey before midnight on October 31, and be entered into a drawing to win a gift card.
Flexible Calendar Information. As you might know, the Calendar Committee (a District committee) has been tasked with exploring options for possibly moving to a 16-week instructional calendar. Whether you love it, hate it, or this is the first you’ve heard about it, faculty must have accurate information about what a change might mean, as well as the opportunity to provide input. We will be posting information on the union’s website next week, and will be setting up a survey to launch in early November in order to get your initial feedback. Adjustments to the calendar must go through the negotiations process, and active members will have the opportunity to vote on the potential changes.
Membership Cards. We have mailed the 2015-2016 membership cards to active members. If you have not received your membership card, please let us know so we can look into it.
Paycheck Errors. Some faculty are still reporting mistakes on paychecks. Issues have involved overload pay, union dues, etc. Even if your September paycheck was correct, please check your October paystub carefully.
If you are PT and also teach at another K-12 or Community College, you may be eligible for a dues reduction. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Jobs Workshop. We are excited to announce that we are planning to host workshops at both SBVC and CHC during Spring PT Orientations, designed to discuss successful strategies for applying and interviewing for FT faculty positions. Details will emerge as the Professional Development Coordinators finalize the schedules.
Weingarten Rights. Never heard of them? What you need to know.
SBCCDTA Website. You are already here! The go-to place for information. Here you will find updates about negotiations, information about upcoming events, and other informational articles. We’ve begun to put together FAQs, but if there’s a topic you would like to see (or write about!), please let us know!
